A few years ago, I had surgery and due to a low blood count, I needed a blood transfusion. At first, I wasn’t comfortable with it and tried other ways to raise my blood count but ultimately, I knew it would save my life.
As the blood ran down the clear tubes into my body, I felt the strength of the liquid and knew how important the act of donating blood was to save the lives of so many.
An old hymnal that we use to sing in my home church back in Virginia came to mind and I started to sing it during the transfusion. “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus.”
The American Red Cross of New Jersey serves a population of 8.8 million people and has a critical shortage of blood. Please consider donating.
The First Baptist Church of Westfield (FBCW) has been the host site for many previous drives, donating numerous pints of blood to help others. This Thursday, October 31st, FBCW will continue that tradition and hold a drive between the hours of 12:00 – 5:00 pm.
If you can donate, please call 1-800 REDCROSS to sign up at the FBCW location or contact the church office at 908-233-2278 to register.
When we give blood, we are offering a part of ourselves to save the life of someone else.
John 15:13 tells us:
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Will you consider donating blood?
